Experts Warn: Cut Back on Booze Before Age 65 for Brain Health

As the holiday season comes to an end and Dry January begins, many are turning to an alcohol-free lifestyle. However, a doctor has shared some surprising advice on when it’s time to cut back – or even quit – drinking altogether.

Dr. Richard Restak, an expert on the human brain, recommends that people over 65 consider permanently eliminating alcohol from their diet due to reduced brain function and increased risk of diseases such as Alzheimer’s. According to his book “How To Prevent Dementia,” excessive drinking after age 65 can harm nerve cells and lead to significant health problems.

Dr. Restak advises that those who drink heavily for mood elevation or anxiety relief should reassess their habits, as these behaviors may be detrimental to their health. He also mentions that older adults are at a higher risk of falls due to frequent heavy drinking, resulting in increased death rates among the elderly.

While some celebrities have spoken out about quitting drinking, Dr. Restak’s advice serves as a reminder of the importance of brain health and moderation when it comes to alcohol consumption.
