Formula 1’s Austrian Grand Prix qualifying saw several surprises and disappointments. Lando Norris dominated, taking pole position ahead of Charles Leclerc in second place. Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri struggled with a yellow flag that prevented him from achieving a better result.
Red Bull’s hopes were dashed as Max Verstappen failed to qualify for Q3 due to caution for yellow flags. However, Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda showed promise by ending up seventh overall. Ferrari’s upgrades appeared to be effective, with Charles Leclerc splitting the McLarens and Lewis Hamilton in fourth place.
Mercedes struggled early on but rebounded slightly through George Russell’s fifth-place finish. Gabriel Bortoleto of Red Bull impressed with an eighth-place qualifying result, while Lance Stroll underperformed for Aston Martin. Liam Lawson surprised everyone by securing a sixth-place spot, his best F1 qualifying result so far.
On the other side, Carlos Sainz struggled to find pace in Q1 and was eliminated early on. Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber team was also slow all weekend, while Pierre Gasly of Alpine impressed with an impressive Q2 performance that saw him launch himself into the top 10 despite a spin at the final corner.
Overall, the Austrian Grand Prix qualifying provided plenty of action and surprises for F1 fans to look forward to.
