Three buzzworthy movies are hitting theaters this weekend. Brad Pitt stars in the high-octane racing film “F1,” while Allison Williams reprises her role as a killer robot in “M3GAN 2.0.” Meanwhile, debut filmmaker Eva Victor brings a poignant and humorous tone to their feature debut “Sorry, Baby.”
In “F1,” Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula One driver who’s coaxed back into the racing world by his team owner. The film features heart-pumping racing sequences, as well as a nod to social significance through its portrayal of two black drivers in the sport.
“M3GAN 2.0” picks up where the original left off, with Allison Williams’ character rebuilding her killer robot companion M3GAN. While the sequel promises more action than the first film, it takes time to deliver on its promise, with a chaotic mix of plot threads and characters vying for screen time.
In contrast, “Sorry, Baby” is a thoughtful and humorous exploration of trauma and friendship. Director Eva Victor brings their unique voice to the feature debut, which follows an English professor as she navigates emotional fallout and finds solace in her relationships. With its witty humor and affecting performances, “Sorry, Baby” marks the arrival of a talented new filmmaker to watch.
