Oscar Piastri topped the first practice session at Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix, but it was brought to an early end due to a crash involving Haas driver Oliver Bearman. The McLaren driver set the fastest time with a lap of 1m27.128s, ahead of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
George Russell led the session initially, setting a quick time on mediums, but his lead was short-lived as soft tyres were introduced later in the session. Despite being demoted by top teams, Russell remained in sixth place. The incident involving Bearman resulted in a red flag, denying several drivers a chance to improve their times.
Verstappen and Leclerc briefly took the lead with temporary fastest sector times, but Piastri’s lap ultimately secured him the top spot. Norris and Hamilton were among those affected by the late incident. The session ended early, leaving the teams to prepare for sprint qualifying later on Friday.
