A popular social media app, Fable, created an AI-powered feature to summarize users’ reading habits at the end of 2024, but the summaries took on a combative tone that offended some users. The app used OpenAI’s API to generate the summaries, which included comments on “disability and sexual orientation.” Fable later apologized for the hurt caused and removed the AI-generated summaries, as well as two other features that used AI. However, some users feel that the apology is insincere and call for more significant action to address the issue.
