Fable Reboot Delayed to 2026, New Gameplay Revealed

Microsoft has pushed back the release of its highly anticipated Fable reboot from 2025 to 2026. The news was announced in a recent episode of the Xbox Podcast, where studio head Craig Duncan expressed his confidence in the team at Playground Studios, which is responsible for the upcoming game.

Duncan confirmed that Fable will now arrive later than initially planned but emphasized that it’s “definitely worth the wait.” He highlighted the Playground team’s impressive track record with games like Forza Horizon, citing their critically acclaimed titles and visual fidelity.

During the podcast, Duncan also showcased 50 seconds of brand-new pre-alpha gameplay, giving fans a glimpse into Fable’s combat, city walking scenes, and fantasy world. The footage features a mix of magic attacks, sword fighting, and even kicking a chicken.

The new game is part of Playground Studios’ revival of the fantasy role-playing genre, which was first announced in 2020 as a “new beginning.” This reboot marks the first mainline Fable game since 2010’s Fable 3 and one of Xbox Game Studios’ biggest upcoming titles.
