Facebook has been testing a feature that allows it to use photos from your camera roll to create collages, recaps, and AI restylings without your explicit consent. The social network claims the images will only be used to improve content sharing suggestions, not to train its artificial intelligence models.
However, some users have raised concerns about the potential misuse of their camera roll files. Meta denies using people’s photos for AI training, stating that the images are “not used to improve AI models” and are instead used to create “suggestions of ready-to-share and curated content.”
The test feature has been ongoing for months, and some users have reported seeing it earlier this year. It’s worth noting that users who allowed the feature initially can opt out by switching it off in their settings.
Meta emphasizes that camera roll media is only used for suggestions and not for ads targeting. Despite these assurances, many are left questioning Facebook’s true intentions behind this feature.
