A Delaware court revealed behind-the-scenes details about an agreement between Facebook and US regulators in 2019, during a trial over investor claims that the settlement cost them at least $7 billion. The agreement emerged after company director Jeffrey Zients approached the Federal Trade Commission with a proposal on behalf of the board. Meta Platforms Inc., now known as Facebook, was willing to pay billions to settle allegations related to a privacy scandal but refused to accept any deal that held founder Mark Zuckerberg personally responsible.
