Facial Plastic Surgery Trends Shift with Weight Loss Medications

The use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) medications for weight loss is transforming facial plastic surgery. A survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery found a 50% increase in fat grafting procedures performed in 2024, with many patients seeking to restore lost volume and enhance facial contours after using these medications.

The top three surgical procedures remain rhinoplasties, facelifts, and blepharoplasties. However, the rise of GLP-1 RA medications is expected to drive demand for nonsurgical treatments like injectable fillers and skin tightening procedures. In fact, 10% of AAFPRS members now personally prescribe these medications.

Men are increasingly seeking cosmetic procedures, with 92% of survey respondents reporting male patients in their practice. The most requested procedures among men are blepharoplasty, rhinosthies, and facelifts. Despite this trend, the use of neurotoxins, fillers, and skin treatments remains unchanged.

Regenerative medicine is also becoming a major area of innovation in facial aesthetics, with 57% of respondents predicting its growth. Menopause makeovers have become increasingly popular, with many patients seeking facial rejuvenation as part of these procedures.
