Factory Expansion Hits Brakes Due to New Tariff Policy

A recent PMI survey shows US manufacturing’s slowdown amid rising prices and tariffs threatening factory operations. The purchasing managers index dropped to 50.3 in February, down from 50.9 in January, undershooting a consensus estimate of 50.6. Despite this, the reading remains above the threshold for growth contraction. A new subindex for prices jumped to 62.4, its highest level in nearly three years, while an employment gauge fell.
