Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. got into a brawl during a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday. The altercation began when Penix threw a deep pass to wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, and things escalated quickly.
Penix explained that he was celebrating his completion, but it seemed to rub the Titans the wrong way. He didn’t specify what he said or what anyone said to him before the pass. However, he did say that he doesn’t remember most of what happened once the fight started.
The Falcons’ quarterback apologized for his actions and acknowledged that he lost control. Fortunately, several teammates, including wide receiver Drake London, stepped in to defend Penix and separate the two teams.
“It’s about protecting your brothers,” Penix said. “That’s what it’s all about.” The incident highlights the brotherhood and camaraderie within the Falcons’ locker room, where players are known for supporting each other on and off the field.
The Titans and Falcons will face each other again in Week 2 of the preseason on Friday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
