Bethesda has finally released the highly anticipated fishing update for Fallout 76, bringing a new leisure activity to the post-apocalyptic survival game. The patch also includes significant changes to limb damage and crafting adjustments.
In the latest episode of Inside the Vault, Bethesda showcased how fishing will affect the open-world RPG. Players can start their journey in ‘Fisherman’s Rest’ in the Mire, where they’ll begin with a basic rod that can be upgraded with new styles, bobbers, and reels to improve their skills. The player’s success at angling is influenced by region, weather, and bait type.
Players will have access to three bait types: common bait, improved bait earned from daily quests and public events, and superb bait as special seasonal rewards. Catching a fish can be converted into Fish Bits, which can then be turned into Grilled Fish or other recipes such as Fish Chowder. This new recipe makes catching more fish easier.
The patch also includes a rework of limb damage, making most enemies easier to cripple while making crippling them more difficult and requiring focused fire. Mods, perks, and weapons that previously had a chance to instantly cripple targets now benefit from a percentage increase to limb damage.
Additionally, the update includes changes to crafting, such as removing perk requirements, rebalancing many perks and legendary mods, adjusting the quick heal priority setting, reducing fast travel costs by 25%, and grouping items of the same type together for faster pickup when using the ‘loot from nearby corpses’ option.
The Fallout 76 fishing update is now live on the public test server (PTS), available to Steam owners who can download it and start playing. The full patch notes are recommended reading before installing.
