Fan Falls from PNC Park Wall During Pirates Game Identified as 20-Year-Old Kavan Markwood

A fan who fell from the Clemente Wall in Pittsburgh’s PNC Park during a recent Pirates-Cubs game has been identified as 20-year-old Kavan Markwood. He is fighting for his life after critically injuring himself.

Markwood, a graduate of South Allegheny High School, was an active member of the community and played football for the Gladiators before attending Walsh University in Ohio and Wheeling University in West Virginia. His friends and school described him as resilient, strong, and kind, with a mischievous smile that melted those around him.

The fall occurred after Andrew McCutchen hit an RBI double, prompting Markwood to jump up and excitedly celebrate. However, he fell from the bleachers and landed on the warning track, sustaining serious injuries.

Markwood was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment and remained in critical condition. According to officials, there are some positive signs that he is responding to his injuries, but his fight for life continues.

The Pirates have said they are treating the incident as “accidental in nature” and have launched an investigation into the cause of the fall. Markwood was with friends at the game when the accident happened.
