Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac to Fund Affordable Housing Program

A coalition of labor leaders and congressional lawmakers have declared that $250 billion in proceeds from a public stock offering for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be invested in housing for middle-class U.S. workers. The proposed program aims to create 3.5 million affordable housing units, mainly targeting households earning between 80% and 165% of the median income in designated geographic areas. Industry leaders say the funds will address the country’s affordable housing crisis and provide jobs for American workers.
