Far-Right Israeli Marchers Attack Palestinians Amid Jerusalem Celebrations

Thousands of far-right Israeli nationalists marched through Jerusalem’s Old City on Monday, chanting insults and assaulting Palestinians during an annual parade for Jerusalem Day. The event commemorates Israel’s capture of East Jerusalem in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

Israeli opposition leaders Yair Lapid and Yair Golan condemned the violence, saying it was a “festival of hatred and racism” that had no place in Judaism. National security minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for the death penalty for “terrorists”, sparking criticism from Palestinians and international observers.

The march coincided with Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza and military operations against Palestinian militants in the West Bank. The event has become increasingly polarizing, with Palestinians viewing it as a threat to their claim to Jerusalem as their future capital.
