FBI Uncovers Classified Documents at John Bolton’s DC Office

FBI agents have found classified documents in former US National Security Adviser John Bolton’s office in Washington, according to a court filing released on Tuesday. The search warrant was carried out on August 22 and included materials marked “secret” and potentially related to weapons of mass destruction, the UN mission, and strategic communications.

The inventory from the search revealed several collections labeled as confidential or secret, but some details were redacted due to national security concerns. No classified information was found at Bolton’s home in Bethesda, Maryland. The investigation is linked to felony offenses including unauthorized retention of classified information under the Espionage Act.

Bolton’s attorney claims that many documents had been cleared for his use years ago and are ordinary records kept by a career official. However, the FBI’s inventory does not specify whether these documents were marked as declassified.
