A major US network hack has left Americans vulnerable to cybercriminals exploiting unencrypted text messages. The FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) urge caution, warning that traditional SMS-based two-factor authentication is not phishing-resistant.
Experts warn that people clicking on suspicious links pose the biggest threat, with 60-70% of successful hacks occurring through phishing attacks. CISA recommends using secure alternatives like authentication apps, FIDO authentication, and strong passwords instead.
The advisory comes after a significant intelligence breach allegedly linked to a Chinese hacking group, highlighting the need for increased security measures.
