The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a public warning to Americans to “exercise vigilance” when visiting or near Tesla dealerships, following a string of arsons and vandalism incidents targeting the electric vehicle brand. The warning comes as protests against Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk have escalated in recent months.
According to the FBI, at least nine states have been affected by these incidents, which involve arson, gunfire, and vandalism, including graffiti expressing grievances against perceived targets. While most of these attacks appear to be carried out by lone offenders, law enforcement is urging people to report any suspicious activity or online threats.
To help protect Tesla customers and owners, the FBI advises being on the lookout for individuals surveilling dealerships and those making online threats. The agency emphasizes that reporting such incidents can aid in identifying violent actors and preventing further damage.
In response to these incidents, law enforcement agencies have increased patrols at affected dealerships, while social media users are sharing images and videos of vandalized vehicles nationwide.
