FCC Opens Probe into Comcast’s DEI Programs Over Fears of Discrimination

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is launching an investigation into NBC-parent Comcast due to concerns over its promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion programs. The probe was initiated by FCC Chair Brendan Carr, who stated that the agency will ensure every entity it regulates complies with civil rights protections in the Communications Act.

Comcast received a letter from Carr, which accused the company of promoting “invidious forms of discrimination.” In response, Comcast confirmed receiving the inquiry and vowed to cooperate. The company has emphasized its commitment to integrity and respect for all employees and customers.

Democratic FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez criticized Carr’s investigation, arguing that it stoked partisan culture wars rather than focusing on closing the digital divide and protecting consumers. The probe marks a new development in the agency’s review of various media companies.

The FCC is also examining other issues, including a CBS News “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris that may violate “news distortion” rules. A separate investigation was recently launched into ABC News’ handling of a pre-election TV debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
