FDA Expands Salmonella Recall of Cucumbers and Ready-to-Eat Products

A growing salmonella outbreak has prompted the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to expand a recall of cucumbers and ready-to-eat products. TGD Cuts, LLC, a Maryland food company, is recalling specific salsa and cucumber products due to potential contamination.

The recalled products were distributed to retail and foodservice locations in five states: Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina. The affected items include salsas, sliced cucumbers, and cucumber spears. No illnesses have been reported, but the recall is precautionary.

This expansion follows a previous May 19 recall involving cucumbers sold directly to consumers at Bednar’s Farm Fresh Market. Since then, other grocers such as Harris Teeter, Kroger, and Walmart have also issued recalls for repackaged cucumbers used in ready-to-eat products.

The FDA has also linked brown eggs sold in nine states to a salmonella outbreak, which has sickened 79 people and hospitalized at least 21. Additionally, the agency recently upgraded a recall of tomatoes distributed in three southern states to a Class I recall due to potential health complications.

Consumers who purchased products from TGD Cuts are advised to discard or return them for a full refund.
