FDA Recalls Blue Ridge Beef Dog Food Due to Salmonella Contamination

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for 5,700 pounds of Blue Ridge Beef’s Natural Mix dog food due to contamination with salmonella. The affected product was sold in eight states between January 3 and 24, including Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.

The recalled product has a UPC of 854298001054 and a lot number of N26/12/31. The FDA warns that the product can pose a risk to both humans and animals, especially if proper handling and hygiene practices are not followed.

Symptoms of salmonella infection in pets include lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. In people, symptoms can range from nausea and vomiting to abdominal cramping, fever, and even life-threatening complications such as arterial infections and urinary tract problems.

This is not the first time Blue Ridge Beef has faced a recall due to salmonella contamination. The company previously recalled its Puppy Mix product in December 2024.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to return it to the store where it was bought or dispose of it safely, taking care not to let pets or wildlife come into contact with it. It is also recommended that they thoroughly clean any surfaces that the product has touched.
