The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of hundreds of cases of Aleppo Tahini Sesame Paste due to potential Salmonella contamination. The product was sold in several states, including Pennsylvania and other areas such as Florida, Kentucky, and New York.
Turkana Food Inc., a company based in Kenilworth, NJ, is responsible for the recall. According to the FDA, routine sampling performed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture found that the finished products contained Salmonella. As a result, the company has ceased production and distribution of the product.
The recalled Sesame Paste was packaged in 16oz plastic jars with specific labeling details, including Lot# 120824-01 on the top portion of the jar and UPC Label 854643003054 on the side. Consumers who purchased this product are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The FDA has confirmed that no reported illnesses have been linked to the product as of February 5. However, consumers with concerns should contact Turkana Food Inc. at 908-810-8800 or email them at info@turkanafood.com for more information.
