Fed Meeting Preview: Interest Rates Unchanged, Retail Sales Data in Spotlight

Investors expect the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates unchanged at its two-day meeting this week. According to market data, there is a near certainty that the FOMC will maintain current levels of 4.25% to 4.5%. The Fed’s report will also include quarterly economic projections and its “dot plot,” which outlines expected interest rate changes.

On Monday, February retail sales data arrives, following sharp declines in January and concerns over consumer resilience. Homebuilder confidence and housing starts data are also scheduled for release this week, as real estate professionals look toward the spring selling season. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will deliver remarks at the company’s annual GTC conference on Tuesday, amid increasing focus on demand for its chips to support artificial intelligence.

Several major companies, including Nike, FedEx, Micron Technology, and others, are set to report earnings this week as businesses weigh the impact of tariffs. The Thursday FOMC interest-rate decision and Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference will also be closely watched. Additionally, Adobe Summit keynote address and Nvidia GTC conference featuring CEO Jensen Huang are scheduled events.

The week will conclude with Fed officials commenting on their meeting blackout period and several companies releasing earnings reports, including Carnival and Nio.
