A FedEx cargo plane carrying a Boeing 767 experienced engine trouble after striking a bird on Saturday morning, forcing the crew to make an emergency landing at Newark Airport. The incident occurred just before 8 am and led to the airport’s brief shutdown.
According to eyewitnesses, including Sporty and Ed Hodges, who witnessed the plane flying back towards the airport with one of its engines ablaze, they initially thought it was an earthquake but quickly realized it was a plane on fire. Witness Sofiane Zeblah, who recorded footage of the incident on her phone, described seeing something fall from the sky and starting to record.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident, which marks another significant aviation safety concern following recent incidents like the Philadelphia crash and a helicopter collision that left 67 dead in the icy Potomac River. However, data shows numbers have improved with fewer accidents in January and February compared to previous years.
