Ferrari’s 2025 challenger, the SF-25, boasts significant changes over its predecessor. Technical Director Loic Serra has overseen a switch from traditional push rod front suspension to pull rod layout, favored by McLaren and Red Bull. This change aims to clean up airflow around the car while allowing for further aero development.
The pull rod front suspension enhances anti-dive, enabling the car to be run lower and creating more downforce at high speeds. However, Serra notes that this is just one aspect of the car’s redesign. The increased wheelbase by extending the gap between the front wheels and cockpit allows the sidepods to start further behind the wheels, minimizing airflow disturbance.
Ferrari has also made changes to improve airflow to the underfloor, with the previous arrangement exhausting aero potential through high-speed bends. The new design directs airflow with greater energy and precision. Additional changes include enhanced undercut, revised radiator inlets, and a new rear wing design.
The team is confident in their car’s performance, driven by simulation data showing promising results. Team boss Frederic Vasseur emphasizes the team’s readiness to compete at the highest level. “We feel ready as a team to take the extra step required to be the best,” he says. With a strong fan base and solid support, Ferrari is poised for success in the 2025 season.
