FGF Brands Recalls 2 Million Baked Goods Due to Listeria Concerns

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of approximately 2 million baked goods due to potential listeria contamination, according to a report released on February 5. The products were manufactured by FGF Brands, an Indiana-based pastry wholesaler that distributes in the US and Canada.

Several affected products are sold at Dunkin’, a popular coffee and doughnut chain. The recall was initiated on January 7 and has been upgraded to Class II, indicating a low risk of serious health consequences but potential for temporary adverse effects.

Listeria is a leading cause of foodborne illness in the US, responsible for an estimated 260 deaths each year. Symptoms can range from vomiting and muscle aches to more severe cases including headache, stiff neck, and convulsions. Pregnant women, newborns, and people with weakened immune systems are at greatest risk.

This is not the first recall related to listeria this year; a broccoli recall occurred last month, and significant recalls of Boar’s Head meat products were issued in July 2024 due to potential contamination.

A recent survey by CivicScience found that 81% of respondents were concerned about food product recalls, with 31% being very worried. The survey also showed that 16% of respondents avoid purchasing products due to recent recalls.
