FGF Brands Recalls Baked Goods Over Listeria Concerns

FGF Brands has issued a massive recall of over two million baked goods, including doughnuts sold at Dunkin’, due to potential listeria contamination. The recall affects sixty products and was first announced on January 7. According to the FDA, this is classified as a “Class II recall,” which indicates that use or exposure may cause temporary or reversible adverse health consequences.

The company claims that the recall is based on non-product related findings at one of its US doughnut facilities and that all donuts are safe to eat. No products or surfaces have tested positive for listeria. The recalled items include French crullers, coffee rolls, fritters, and various types of doughnuts.

Listeria is a serious foodborne illness that can be particularly deadly for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In severe cases, listeriosis can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, hospitalization, and even death.

The FDA defines a “Class II recall” as a situation where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. FGF Brands completed this voluntary recall over a month ago and emphasizes that it does not affect currently or recently available products.
