Fifth Avenue is turning 200 years old this Sunday, December 8, and the iconic street will be closed to car traffic between 48th Street and 55th Street for a special celebration. The event will feature live music performances, art installations, unique shopping opportunities, and interactive experiences curated by top stores, hotels, and restaurants on Fifth Avenue.
Participating stores include luxury brands like Tiffany & Co., Swarovski, and Coach, as well as local favorites like Uniqlo and Victoria’s Secret. Music fans can look forward to performances from renowned ensembles like the Juilliard Jazz Duke Ellington Ensemble and the Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra.
The celebration marks a new era for Fifth Avenue, which is set to undergo significant changes in the coming years. Plans include transforming the street into a pedestrian-first zone with fewer traffic lanes, more sidewalks, and plenty of greenery. A new residential building and a super tall skyscraper are also on the horizon.
To take part in the festivities, head to Fifth Avenue between noon and 6pm on December 8. With live music, shopping, and art, it’s an event not to be missed – rain or shine!
