Fifth Walt Disney World Theme Park Possible by 2045

A newly adopted plan suggests the possibility of a fifth major theme park at Walt Disney World, reserved development capacity for a new “major theme park” and two “minor theme parks” over the next two decades. While no plans have been announced, the Comprehensive Plan 2045 from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) reserves land use and infrastructure policies to support potential development.

The plan allows for one major theme park on par with Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom, spanning 400-550 acres. Two smaller “minor theme parks” are also permitted, estimated at 147 acres each. The district’s intent is to preserve zoning and infrastructure assumptions for potential future development.

This concept isn’t new, as the now-replaced Reedy Creek Improvement District included similar allowances in its Horizon 2020 plan. The CFTOD plan builds upon this capacity, acknowledging Walt Disney World’s long-term growth potential.

Existing theme parks have room to expand within their current footprints or adjacent land, while significant undeveloped areas remain available for development. With enough land remaining, the district offers a flexible path forward for Disney.

Ultimately, whether the fifth gate becomes a reality depends on business strategy, guest demand, and capital investment. For now, the possibility remains open.
