Figure Skater Maxim Naumov Honors Late Parents in Emotional Routine

Figure skater Maxim Naumov paid tribute to his late parents, Vadim and Evgenia Shishkova, in a powerful routine at the Legacy on Ice U.S. Figure Skating Benefit at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. The 23-year-old skater performed a solo routine set to “The City That Doesn’t Exist” as part of the benefit for the loved ones and families affected by the January plane crash that killed 28 members of the figure skating community.

Naumov’s emotional performance was met with a lengthy standing ovation from the sold-out crowd, who were also visibly moved. The event aimed to raise funds and support for those impacted by the tragedy. Former Olympian Johnny Weir, who appeared at the benefit, said it was devastating to think of his own family on the plane, but he took comfort in knowing that great skaters can show up for others despite their grief.

Naumov’s parents had been in attendance just days before the crash, watching their son compete at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. They were also involved with The Skating Club of Boston and coached at a national development camp as part of their affiliation.
