‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Scares Up Box Office with Record-Breaking $51 Million Opening

Warner Bros. is riding high at the box office, thanks to New Line’s critically acclaimed horror-thriller “Final Destination Bloodlines.” The film topped the weekend charts with a franchise-best domestic opening of $51 million, exceeding expectations. Overseas, it earned an additional $51 million for a global start of $102 million.

The successful revival of the long-dormant franchise marks a significant milestone in its 25-year history. The last installment, “Final Destination 5,” was released in 2011 and opened to $18 million. Directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, “Bloodlines” stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana as a young woman who discovers her grandmother’s ability to cheat death with frightening consequences.

The film is not the only one dominating the box office this weekend. Ryan Coogler’s superhero thriller “Sinners” earned $16.5 million in its third weekend, while the video game adaptation “Minecraft Movie” claimed a fourth-place finish with $5.9 million in its seventh weekend. Amazon MGM Studios’ “The Accountant,” starring Ben Affleck, rounded out the top five.

However, not all films are faring as well. Lionsgate and Live Nation’s “Hurry Up Tomorrow” opened in sixth place with a forgettable $3.3 million, sparking concerns about the film’s prospects.

Meanwhile, A24’s “Friendship” expanded into 62 locations and is on track to earn $2.5 million for a per-theater average of $23,333, making it one of the top performers at the specialty box office.
