Square Enix is kicking off the 25th anniversary celebration of Final Fantasy IX with a new website and special merchandise. The anniversary edition picture book “Vivi, Grandpa, and the Day of Departure” will be released on July 2 for $9 USD.
Fans can also look forward to various goods such as figures, necklaces, plushies, and a limited-edition vinyl called Timeless Tales. A collaboration with Zoff eyewear is also underway, while a “commemorative lottery” has been announced for later this year.
The anniversary celebration has reignited rumors of a Final Fantasy IX remake, which were first mentioned in 2021’s Nvidia GeForce leak. In 2023, Gematsu confirmed that Square Enix was working on the project. The classic game was initially released on PlayStation in July 2000 and received mixed reviews at the time, with some critics labeling it as a “throwback” compared to its predecessors Final Fantasy VII and VIII.
