Final Fantasy 9 Remake Hints Emerge Ahead 25th Anniversary

Square Enix has launched a new website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 9, marking the occasion with merchandise and collaboration plans. While there’s no official mention of a remake, the developer suggests it may have “various projects” in the works.

The RPG is set to return as part of Square Enix’s commemoration efforts, which also include a prequel picture book, soundtrack vinyl, and collaborations with companies like Zoff eyeglasses. The company has prioritized releasing games on Sony’s PlayStation systems first, but it appears this approach may change, with Final Fantasy 16’s director stating that new FF games will likely be released on PC from day one.

As the release date of Nintendo’s Switch 2 approaches in April 2025, some speculate that a Final Fantasy 9 remake could be an early launch title. However, Square Enix reassures fans that it will pursue a multiplatform strategy, ensuring PC releases alongside console launches.
