Finland has been ranked as the world’s happiest country for the eighth successive year, according to the UN-sponsored World Happiness Report. Experts attribute this success to Finland’s strong welfare system and access to nature.
The report also found that strangers are about twice as kind as people think. A study on lost wallets revealed that the rate of returned items was almost twice as high as predicted, highlighting the importance of trust in others.
Finland topped the list with an average score of 7.736 out of 10, followed by Denmark and Iceland. The top 10 countries are:
1. Finland
2. Denmark
3. Iceland
4. Sweden
5. Netherlands
6. Costa Rica
7. Norway
8. Israel
9. Luxembourg
10. Mexico
The report’s findings suggest that strong family bonds, sharing meals with others, and household size are also linked to happiness. The 2025 World Happiness Report highlights the need for social connection and kindness in fostering peace and wellbeing.
