Finland has secured its position as the world’s happiest country for the eighth year in a row, according to the World Happiness Report published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. The European nation took the top spot ahead of Norway and Iceland.
A total of 156 countries were ranked based on people’s self-assessed life evaluations over the years 2022-2024. The report highlights Finland’s unique approach to happiness, citing its strong sense of community and support from friends and family as key factors.
Gallup’s managing director Ilana Ron Levey attributes Finland’s success to its “belief in others,” future optimism, trust in institutions, and reduced well-being inequality compared to other countries like the US. The report also notes that a consensus about feeling good about life is more prevalent in Finland than elsewhere.
The United States has seen significant changes in its ranking, slipping from No. 23 last year to No. 24 this time around. Other countries, such as Denmark and Sweden, occupy second and third places respectively.
