A large fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela festival in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh state on Sunday, but emergency teams were able to quickly bring it under control without any injuries reported. The blaze spread to 10 tents hosting the event, but District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mander said the situation had returned to normal.
The six-week-long festival, which began last Monday, attracts over 400 million people expected to attend over the next six weeks to take a dip at the confluence of three sacred rivers. The fire occurred around 4:30 p.m. and emergency responders, including firefighters and police teams, were quickly deployed to the scene.
