Fire TV Stick Warning Issued Over Netflix Support Loss

Fire TV users are facing a warning as popular streaming services will stop working on ageing devices from June. The issue affects the 2014 models of Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote, and Fire TV. Users of these devices may not be able to access their favourite shows like Drive to Survive or Love, Death & Robots.

The problem lies in Netflix’s use of the AV1 codec for higher picture quality, which is not supported by the 2014 models. This means customers paying for a Premium Netflix plan may miss out on features like 4K resolution. To avoid this issue, users are advised to upgrade to newer Fire TV devices such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Fire TV Stick 4K.

Check which device you have by navigating to Settings > My Fire TV > About on your Fire TV. If your device is affected, it’s time to consider an upgrade to ensure uninterrupted access to Netflix and other streaming services.
