Firefly’s Blue Ghost Lander Captures Stunning Moon Eclipse Photo

Firefly’s Blue Ghost lunar lander has taken a breathtaking photo of a solar eclipse from the Moon, capturing the diamond ring effect where the Earth blocks out the Sun. The image, which looks almost identical to the logo of the early 2000s TV show Heroes, was snapped at around 1:30 AM ET on Friday morning as the Earth slowly covered the Sun.

The lunar surface turned red during a total lunar eclipse observed from Earth, while the solar eclipse on the Moon lasted for about five hours. The lander’s X-band antenna is currently unable to transmit images due to being stuck in cold temperatures, but Firefly plans to release more photos once it warms up.

Blue Ghost landed on the Moon on March 2 at around 3:30 AM ET with no issues, marking a notable achievement for the company. The lander is equipped with ten NASA instruments designed to probe the lunar surface and gather data to support upcoming human missions. It will operate until March 16 as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative.
