First Alert’s Smart Smoke & CO Alarms Now Compatible with Google Home

First Alert has launched a new line of smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that work seamlessly with Google Home, offering users an alternative to discontinued Nest Protect devices. The new $129 detectors boast advanced features such as automatic safety checkups, Heads-up Early Warning, and alerts when an alarm triggers.

Designed for easy integration with existing Nest Protect alarms, the First Alert Smart Smoke & CO Alarms interconnect over Nest’s Weave communication protocol, allowing users to receive notifications from both compatible devices. Additionally, these alarms are compatible with existing smart home platforms, including Google Home apps.

The new alarms feature a 10-year battery option, which meets requirements in many states, and a battery-powered option with backup batteries. The app will send low battery warnings, eliminating those annoying chirps at night.

Although the First Alert alarms don’t work as a presence sensor for Google Home’s Home & Away function or feature a nightlight like Nest Protects, they can trigger live feeds from Nest security cameras in the Home app when an alarm sounds.

The new smart smoke alarm is available now for preorder on FirstAlert.com and will be released later this year in the US and Canada. The company has phased out its existing Onelink models that worked with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home, focusing on these new compatible models.

This development comes hot on the heels of competitor Kidde’s launch of smart smoke alarms compatible with Ring at CES this year.
