Fort Bend County has confirmed its first case of measles in the area, according to the county’s health department. The case involves a woman aged 50-60 who recently traveled internationally.
The Houston Health Department is investigating potential exposure to measles among local residents who may have come into contact with the infected individual. Health officials urge everyone to check their immunization records and get vaccinated if necessary to prevent the spread of the disease.
This case brings the total number of measles cases in the Houston area to three, all of which involve patients who traveled internationally and were not vaccinated. The latest case involves an infant who is recovering at home.
The Texas Department of State Health Services has reported 400 total cases of measles across the state since late January 2025, with 41 hospitalizations. A school-age child in Lubbock died from measles complications earlier this year, highlighting the importance of vaccination in preventing serious illness and death.
