Severe weather and flash flooding have caused widespread damage across the US, with total insured losses potentially reaching tens of millions of dollars. The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions were among the hardest hit, while other areas including Kansas City, Chicago, central Texas, and North Carolina experienced strong storms and floods.
In Central and Eastern Europe, a low-pressure system known as Gabriel brought large hail, heavy rainfall, and strong winds between July 9 and 14. Meanwhile, parts of northeastern Spain and southwestern France faced severe storms with torrential rainfall, hailstones up to 2.4-2.8 inches in diameter, and wind gusts over 75 mph.
The total economic losses from these events are expected to be substantial, mainly due to damaged infrastructure and agriculture, according to the Aon Weekly Cat Report: Review of Global Catastrophe Activity.
