Flight Cancellations Could Rise by Up to 20% Amid Government Shutdown

The US government shutdown is causing flight cancellations to rise, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warning that air-traffic controllers may not be able to work if the shutdown continues. Currently, there are about 780 canceled flights per day, a reduction of 3% from the same time last year. However, if the shutdown persists, cancellations could increase by up to 20%. The concern is that controllers can’t afford to go two paychecks without receiving their salaries. The number of flight cancellations has been relatively low so far, but experts are watching closely for any further disruptions.
