Flooding Devastates South Africa, At Least 49 Dead

A severe cold front has brought devastating flooding to parts of South Africa, claiming at least 49 lives. The worst-hit areas include the Eastern Cape, where homes have been forced out due to floodwaters, causing power outages and road closures.

On Tuesday morning, a school bus was swept away in Decoligny village while en route to school, killing four pupils and two adults. Three children were rescued from the vehicle. The provincial government has confirmed that 13 people were on board, with four still missing as rescue teams continue their search.

This is not the first time South Africa has faced severe flooding. In 2022, heavy downpours left up to 400 people dead in Durban and the KwaZulu-Natal province. The flooding has triggered widespread disruption, highlighting the need for continued support and response efforts to mitigate its impact on communities.
