Florida is paying tribute to the late Hulk Hogan, a wrestling legend who died on July 24 at 71. The state’s flags will fly at half mast at the state capitol in Tallahassee starting Friday.
As part of the honors, August 1 will be recognized as “Hulk Hogan Day” in Florida, announced Governor Ron DeSantis. The move is a nod to Hogan’s larger-than-life personality and his status as an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s.
DeSantis praised Hogan as a true Floridian, saying he was an integral part of the state’s community. Hulk Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, lived much of his life in Florida and made headlines with his fiery speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. His passing has been mourned by senior Republicans, including Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Hogan’s death comes as a loss to many who grew up idolizing him as a wrestling superstar. However, his legacy will live on through this tribute, which celebrates his impact on the state of Florida and its people.
