“Flow” Wins Historic Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film

Latvia’s “Flow”, an independent animated film, has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, marking a historic moment for the country and its director Gints Zilbalodis. The movie, which tells the story of a cat seeking refuge on a boat after a flood destroys its home, was rendered on open-source software and features no dialogue. Its win beats out major studio films such as “Inside Out 2”, “Moana 2” and “The Wild Robot”. This achievement marks Latvia’s first Oscar nominations in two major categories, making history for the Northern European country.
