A child’s death has been linked to the flu in Maine, according to the state’s health officials. The child passed away on March 19 after testing positive for influenza B. This marks the first reported flu-associated pediatric death in the state during this season.
As of March 25, 146 flu outbreaks have been identified, with over 1,200 people hospitalized due to laboratory-confirmed influenza cases. Health officials emphasize that influenza can be a serious illness and urge Mainers to take precautions.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend getting vaccinated against the flu. Additionally, handwashing, covering coughs, and staying home when sick are essential measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Influenza activity remains elevated across all 16 counties in Maine, with Influenza A/H3 and Influenza A/H1N1 being the dominant strains so far this season.
