Flu Widespread: Challenges Remain for TREATMENT

The flu is spreading rapidly across the U.S., with health officials warning that cases are expected to stay high in the coming weeks. Dr. Sean Liu of Mount Sinai emphasized that “It’s out of control.” The CDC reports at least 12 million infections this season, leading to over 160,000 hospitalizations and 6,600 deaths. Tamiflu, an antiviral medication, is commonly prescribed to high-risk individuals to ease symptoms and aid recovery but must be taken promptly after onset of illness. However, distinguishing flu symptoms from other viruses like colds can be challenging, adding complexity to treatment decisions.
