Alef Aeronautics Inc., a San Francisco Bay Area company, has successfully conducted a flight test of its flying car in a city environment. The company released video showing the car driving on a road and taking off vertically.
The test was conducted with safety measures, including closing the road during the flight test, ensuring no one was under or near the flight path, and having safety equipment and emergency crews present. There were no safety issues.
Alef’s flying car is 100% electric and can drive on public roads. The Model A has a range of 200 miles by land and 110 miles in the air. It carries a price tag of $300,000 for one passenger and one pilot. The company has taken over 3,300 pre-orders through its website.
Alef’s next model, the Model Z, is expected to be introduced in 2035 with autonomous flight capabilities and a lower price point of $35,000. The Model Z will have a flying range of 200 miles and a driving range of 400 miles.
