The highly anticipated Football Manager 25 has been canceled by Sports Interactive, the developer behind the long-running series. The decision was made after “extensive internal discussions and careful consideration,” according to a statement released on Thursday.
Fans had been eagerly awaiting the game, which was initially intended as a major overhaul of the franchise. Developer Miles Jacobson stated that the 2025 version would be “the first chapter in the new book of Football Manager” and would feature significant changes, including a switch from the proprietary engine to Unity and overhauls to more than 500 screens.
However, after extensive scope changes, Sports Interactive decided to focus on Football Manager 2026 instead. The cancellation comes at a time when fans were midway through the European football season, with many expecting a new installment.
Jacobson acknowledged that some people may have doubted the developer’s ambition, stating “it’s our ambition” as the reason for the scope changes. Despite this, he emphasized that Sports Interactive aims to continuously improve and innovate in their games.
