Ford CEO Says Game On, Eyes on Nürburgring Record

Ford CEO Jim Farley has responded to Chevrolet’s new record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a statement of determination. The Corvette ZR1X dethroned the Ford Mustang GTD as the fastest American car at the track, with a lap time of 6:52.07.

Farley acknowledged the achievement, saying “congrats to the Corvette team. Game on!” in an Instagram post from Chevrolet’s official page. The comment was discovered by The Drive.

However, Ford may not be ready to give up yet. While the Mustang GTD currently holds a respectable lap time of 6:57.685, it is at a disadvantage compared to the Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X. The GTD weighs over 4,300 pounds, while the ZR1 makes 1,064 hp and the ZR1X reaches 1,250 hp.

Despite its performance capabilities, the Mustang GTD’s weight and aerodynamic features give it an edge. Ford has a strong racing background and is known for pushing performance limits with new models. However, CEO Farley will likely need more information before challenging Chevrolet’s record again.

For now, it remains to be seen what Ford has planned to regain its spot as the fastest American car at the Nürburgring.
